“death is but the doorway to new life – we live today, we shall live again, in many forms shall we return.”
After riding home on the dirigible from the Oasis of Ahm Shere after the defeat of Mathayus the Scorpion King, the O'Connell's managed to settle back down in their large mansion back in London. They had returned back to their daily lives, enjoying the peace which was well earned. Young Alex O'Connell had returned back to his regular schooling terms and Evelyn had decided to take the Bembridge Scholar's offer as curator of the British Museum; while finally, Rick had decided to enjoy the time off from fighting the undead. It was believed that since the defeat of their foes that they would be capable of defeating anything thrown their way.
It had been approximately three months since the O'Connell's had settled down where Ardeth Bey would be found walking upon the O'Connell's doorstep once again. It was Rick who had opened the door that evening, and much to his dismay, received unfavorable knowledge as the bearer of bad news had entered his household. His assumptions were spot on as he told the O'Connell's a tale that could have been considered a mere legend to normal civilians. He had told the story of two amulets known as the Amulets of Karawan, each containing quite a unique source of power, power that could lead to the world's undoing. The Amulet of Aton was known to contain the ability of time travel, and was shaped as a winged solar disk, resembling the Egyptian sun god, Aten; while the sibling amulet, the Amulet of Khaldun, was known for the powers of immortality and invulnerability, and resembled the Ka symbol.
The legend began back in ancient Egypt, where a powerful pharaoh had requested them to be made. While this pharaoh was not Seti I, the pharaoh ruled ancient Egypt in the Eighteenth Dynasty, and with the Amulets of Karawan the pharaoh would have been invincible. The Amulets of Karawan were requested for a purpose: to make sure that no harm had come to him and that if any damage was to be made to his kingdom, it was to be redone. However, upon the amulets creation it had caused anarchy to arise in the known world. Armies had formed and headed for ancient Egypt in order to capture these powerful amulets and place them into their countries possessions; and so, upon decision, the pharaoh had decided to transport the amulets to a different timeframe. By placing both amulets beside one another, the amulets had transported themselves to the Year of the Scorpion, 1933. Unfortunately, upon committing such an act, the Amulet of Aton was no longer capable of staying in one place. Now it was capable of transporting itself all around the world, never returning to the same place a second time.
Ardeth had also told the story of yet another secret society, the Djed. This particular society was not only after the Amulets of Karawan, but they were the living descendants of Imhotep's priests from ancient Egypt. They were sworn enemies to the Medjai for over three thousand years. Unknowingly to the Medjai, the chieftain of the Djed was the re-embodiment of Pharaoh Seti I under a new alias and persona and was regaining his memories overtime. The reincarnated pharaoh had also been leading the Djed to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, which had appeared as it did three thousand years ago due to the Amulet of Aton's influence. They sought to find the Amulet of Khaldun and finding it was a success, and therefore, their second task began: to resurrect Imhotep and Anck-su-namun. This task was given to their chieftain, which he had completed it successfully. It was believed that they were capable of finding the location of the Amulet of Aton. When they were resurrected, the reincarnated pharaoh had given the Amulet of Khaldun to Anck-su-namun, so she could become human and not be harmed. However, unbeknownst to the pharaoh, one of the Djed elders had told Imhotep and Anck-su-namun that the pharaoh was currently unaware of their treason, and advised them to act as the pharaohs once faithful courtiers.
As this phenomenon occurred, the O'Connell's had no knowledge that the Amulet of Khaldun had been found; furthermore, they had already left London soon after. With the O'Connell's now on the move and the Djed now after the Amulet of Aton, this journey has yet to be written, let alone the destination. What becomes of this strange phenomenon is left up to you, as you decide your fate, your side, along with the fate of the world!
